Audience feedback questionnaire

For my audience feedback I let eight people watch my music video - Redlight, and showed them both of my ancillary tasks, my magazine advert and my didgi pack.
I gave them this questionnaire to fill in afterwards:

Video Questionnaire

1)     What appeals to you about my music video?

2)     Do you like the type of music?

3)     What stands out the most about my video?

4)     Is there an obvious genre?

5)     Does my poster, albulm cover and video all match the same kind of theme?

6)     If so, why?

7)     What stands out about my poster and albulm cover?

8)     If there was anything you would do differently, what would you do to improve?

After they filled in the questionnaire the overall results i got were positive.
I found the majority of my audience found the fast cut editing to the up beat music, and the various effects i had put in, appealing.
Most girls prefferred the type of music which was appropriate as my target audience was aimed at girls.
I discovered that the thing that stood out to them most was the contrast of bright colours, and also the artist, who i carefully chose to suit the genre.
I was also pleased with the genre was clear to the audience, as they all knew it was pop!
The audience also agreed that my poster albulm cover and music video all followed the same sort of theme, words used were 'girly' 'colouful' and 'creative'.
T   The things that stood out to the audience most about my poster and abulm cover, was the bright colours and unique look of my pop artist.
Finally, my audience decided that to improve my video they would make the song longer or perhaps choose a different song as it became quite repetitive to listen to.

filming and editing so far

I cut down the material i had filimed in Blackpool, mostly with shots of sarah on the beach and with teh sunny backgroud.
Additionally, i have since filmed sarah in the studio using props such as balloons, rainbow drops and cupcakes all to add fun to the video and brightness. I have used many up close, medium and long shots of the artist in different poses and from diffferent angles to create a variation when the clips are chopping from one to the other to the beat of the song. To make the video more intersting i have edited almost every clip, adding effects and changing the colour etc to create a more fun realistic looking 'pop' video.
Now, i have just under a minute left to film before my video will finally be complete. I have decided i want to film her on a trampoline with a lollipop, due to transport problems getting back to balckpool and then also film her behind the green screen in the studio, lipsinking so i am able to add more colour to the video by changing the colour of the background.

Back of albulm cover

I wanted the back of my albulm cover to be a little different than than the front and inside covers and i took a clip from what i had filmed in Blackpool and edited it so that it was still suitable for the albulm and still fit in with the other pictures and covers i had created.

filming so far

This week i managed to film my artist in Blsckpool, unfortunately i didn't get as much footage as i wanted as both batteries died. I have edited and cut down what i have to just over a minute showing clips of her on the beach as i wanted, of her having fun and 'being free' and her lipsinking to part of the song.
Next week i hope to film sarah in the studio and also the club scene hoping for most of my video then to be finished.

final poster for ancillary

I changed a few things on the poster, firstly the title advertising 'out 1st may' as i thought it looked more appropriate smaller and closer to the small picture of the albulm. Also i added the hmv logo in the bottom right hand side as a guide to where you can purchase the cd from.

Poster for ancillary task

The poster i have made to advertise my CD follows the same theme as the cover and pictures for the abulm cover, i did this so that the advertising was more precise and specific to the artist and would create a clearer picture for my audience.

Progress so far

Unfortunately due to transports and funding costs last sunday i was unable to film my artist in Blackpool, however i have taken shots for the ancillary task of the artist in the studio which i hope to edit using green screen and different backgrounds. I took several different shots with my artist in different poses and at different angles and have narrowed them down to which i think look the best. These are some of the pictures before editing.

With these pictures i am hoping to create either an album cover, or one of the insides of the cover, or possibly both. One of my ideas was to have them made smaller, all in boxes, one on top of the other. To develop the pictures and improve the look when i edit them i hope to make them brighter and make the best features stand out.

Key concepts of research and planning

Research and planning sources

I have done most of my research through look on www.youtube.co.uk by looking at other artists videos in order to help get ideas for my own, additional research has come from radio 1's website in getting the latest official music chart and most planning has been done on the blog or personally at home.

Analysis of chart music

After looking at this weeks chart music i can see that pop music continues to be popular including artists such as Rihanna, Katy Perry and Ellie Goulding whose music videos i have analysed. This shows that the type of music i have looked at will have a good chance of selling, and the image and music video to go with the song will help to do this. Th image of all pop artists in the charts at the moment is very important, so i hope to build up my artists image enough to look like it could be in the charts at the moment.

Organised actors

The main actor in my video is my artist, therefore the only other actors i need are backing actors and the 8 people i need to create my club/ party scene.
Here is a picture of my artist;

props, costumes locations locations and casting shots

Props
 for the studio scenes;
Large circle lollipops
Candyfloss
Popcorn
doughnuts
large sun glasses
waterpistol

Party/club;
redlights
A glass - with alcoholic drink in

Costumes
The costumes when filming on the rides, at the beach will be casual but still bright - eg leggings pumps, a printed tops - something fancy in her hair, clip or headband.
For the scenes in the studio - All costumes will be really bright and funky.
One of the outfits will include doughnuts attached to a crop top, with some high waisted shorts or skirt. Another will include a white/creamy one shoulder dress that had a huge flower on one side of the dress.
For the 'party' a black top with leggings is all that will be needed, as only the top half of her body will be shown and the red, dark lights will cover hopefully any colour, eg, what she is wearing.

Filming schedules
This sunday night and monday day i hope to film the scenes in blackpool, by spending the night and day there i hope to get all shots done overnight.
The following Monday after, i hope to get my artist into college to film her in the studio, and get all footage within the hour and a half, if i do not have time, i will edit what i can that week and on the  i will bring her back in to get anything extra i need.
At home, at some point during this time i hope to get around 8 people together to make it look like i am filming in a club, which shouldn't take too long.

Storyboard

Due to my video not following a proper narrative, i have drawn up all the different scenes that will be in my video, to give more of a clear image.

Full synopsis

My film is basically about the artist, so the whole video will include my artist, with my camera focusing most of the time on her. The lyrics symbolise almost how she is free and single, and is better off without a particular guy, and hints that she just wants one thing. So i want the artist to look like she is having fun and is 'free' as the song is light hearted and upbeat.

Through the chorus, i aim to have shots of my friends through the studio, with a bright background, i want here my artist to have lots of energy and really perform to the camera with the use of props i am going to give her. Changing costumes and 'looks' for her as much as i can.

For the two other verses;

1)You send me into overdrive
You make me feel alright
You make me feel hypnotised
and I don't come that easily

You think you know what you want
But you don't have a clue
Did you think I really wanted to make love to you??
I was feeling wasted
In need of therapy
and then you took me, you took me, you took me
to another place
another place in time, another state of mind
another place in time

2)It may be just be for one night
but that is all I need
Just need a taste, a taste of your sex appleal
nothings ever to much, you can do what you want
and then you took me, you took me, you took me
to another place......

I haven't decided an actual order, as i would like the shots to be quite mixed up and fast cut, to fit with the time of the music. However, i definately want a lot of shots on fast rides, spinning round, and from different angle, on the beach i want to film her running, then splashing in the sea, again both of these settings to show her being free.
Another part of my video that i would like to be filmed in teh studio, is for parts of teh verse, giving the look that she is being locked up, and instead of holding up her name to teh camera she is holding up words from the song eg, 'hypnotised' 'overdrive' 'therapy'.

I also want to create a look, that my artist is pushing past huge crowds of people at a party/club, and is really drunk with red flashing lights shining..

Equipment and Technology

To create my video i will be using different equipment and technology to produce, to help make it look as proffesional as possible.
These will include;
the mac, for use of photoshop, imovie HD and the internet - these programmes will help me develop my ancillary task, for photographs of the artist etc, and also enable me to upload and edit my video, the internet will help my do my research and help develop my ideas.
Other equipment i shall use, is the video camera and the digital camera - these will be used for take still images for my ancillary task and uploading pictures onto the blog of my artist, settings and props etc. The video camera id there obviously, to film.

Using titles in music videos

I researched how to use titles in a music video in order to help me if i want text in my own music video, for either my artists name, or anything else. This video i found helped prove very helpful in teaching me how to do this if i need to.

Different music institutions

There are many different labels that artists are signed to, however i am going to choose a specific label to produce my video by looking at a similar pop artist, i researched a different artist who i thought was also similar to my own, additional to the others i have so far looked at, Gwen Stefani.
This artist is signed to UMG(Universal Music Group) and after researching this label i have learned that they are also institutes for other big pop artists such as Beyonce and Elton John among many many more. I have chosen this label as they prove popular, therefore they would have a lot of finance behind them and as they manage similar artists they seem to be able to come up with similar ideas etc.

Audience theory

In my theory after giving out questionnaires to a number of males and females i have concluded who my target audience should be and what they will be looking for in the videos.
Females aged 15 - 18 and 18+ chose their favourite type either, pop, r'n'b or dance i was happy with the result as my song is a pop song with a dance remix, and most females chose pop!
Females said that they liked this type of music because it was fun, upbeat and you can dance to it.
Favourite artists that were named, were, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kesha and Beyonce this was also a good response as these were artists that influenced me to create the video and image for my artist.
When asked what they look for in a music video their response was energy bright colours and fashion, which i hope to include in my video in order to satisfy the audience so that they enjoy their viewing.
For my ancillary task i asked how they would support their artist so i could advertise in on my magazine cover, they chose buying CD's and concerts!
Finally, one of the most important questions i asked was what kind of appeal/appearance would you like your audience to have, answers that i got were glamourous, funky, unique, and sexy! As my artists appeal is very important to the video i hope to include all of these looks.

Meanwhile, teh males i asked of a similar age prefered rock music soul or indie, this helped me decide to aim my magazine totally at females as the male audience prefered  a different genre of music.

Audience questionnaire

The questionnaire i am going to give out to young people is to find out overall what type of music they're into and what attracts them to this type of music.

1.What gender are you?

male or female

2.How old are you?

5 - 10     10 - 14    15 - 18    18+

3.What type of music do you like the most?

4.What attracts you to this type of music?

5.What kinds of artists do you like and why?

6.What do you look for in a music video?

7.How would you support your artist, concerts/CD's/videos/gigs?

8.What kind of appearance/appeal would you like your artist to have?

I am going to hand out this questionnaire to a variety of people and use this of part of my research to find out who my target audience should be, why, and what they would look for in a music video.
